School Scholarship Tax Credit Program

The School Scholarship Tax Credit (SGO) Program was enacted in 2009 and funds scholarships to offset tuition costs for eligible PK-12 students at participating non-public schools.

Funding for scholarships comes from private, charitable donations to a qualified scholarship granting organization (SGOs). Donors (individuals or corporations) are eligible to take advantage of a 50% state tax credit.

While there are no limits to how much a donor can contribute to a SGO, the entire tax credit program cannot award more than $18.5 million in credits during a fiscal year (July 1, 2024–June 30)

To apply for an SGO award, the parent/guardian should contact the participating school. The participating school will then work with the parent/guardian to complete the SGO application.

Choice Scholarship Program (Voucher Program)

The Choice Scholarship Program, commonly referred to as the voucher program, was enacted in 2011 and provides scholarships to offset tuition costs and fees for eligible K-12 students at participating non-public schools.

The Choice Scholarship student application is available beginning on March 1, and ending on September 1, for the first application period. The second Choice Scholarship application period begins November 1 and ends January 15.

The parent/guardian must provide documentation of eligibility to the participating school. The application and supporting information will then be submitted to the Indiana Department of Education by the participating school.

If a student is approved for a Choice Scholarship, the participating school will provide the parent/guardian with a copy of the award letter at the time the student’s application is approved. This award letter will detail the estimated amount of the Choice Scholarship.
